Privacy Policy

VERMENTE (“we”, “us”) respects your privacy and complies with the applicable privacy laws, including Korea’s Personal Information Protection Act and, for users in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, the GDPR and UK GDPR. This policy applies to both the iOS and the Android version of Tockall (the “app”).

The two versions behave differently in a few places because the operating systems differ. Where they differ, the difference is marked [iOS] or [Android].

1. The short version

  • The app has no account and no sign-in.
  • Everything — your contacts, saved messages, send log and settings — is stored only on your device.
  • We run no server. We never receive, view or store this data.
  • We do not sell personal data and do not use it for advertising or tracking.
  • The way texts are sent differs between the two versions:
    • [iOS] The app does not send texts itself. The built-in Messages sheet opens and you send the text yourself.
    • [Android] After you approve the confirmation screen, the app sends the text itself through your carrier. In this case a record of what was sent to whom is kept in the app’s send log.

2. Data the app handles

  • Data you enter: contact names and phone numbers, saved message templates, your sender name
  • Data you import: files you choose (CSV, Excel), clipboard contents, photos, and names and numbers read from your phone’s address book
  • [Android] Send log: the recipient’s name and number, the text that was sent, the time, and whether it succeeded or failed
  • Purchase status: whether you have bought the one-time unlock (the payment itself is handled by [iOS] Apple or [Android] Google; we never receive payment details)
  • Settings: the options you choose in the app

All of this stays on your device and is never transmitted to us.

[Android] Why there is a send log: Texts the app sends itself do not appear in your phone’s messaging app. Without a record you could not tell whether someone was texted twice or missed, so the app keeps its own log. It lives only on the device and you can clear it at any time under Settings → Send log.

3. Why the data is used

To send texts and place calls, to keep your contact list and templates, [Android] to show you the result of each send, to check your purchase status, and to answer support requests.

4. How long data is kept

Data stays on your device until you delete it or uninstall the app. We keep no copy. Deleted data cannot be recovered.

You can delete everything from inside the app at any time:

  • [iOS] Settings → Reset Tockall
  • [Android] Settings → Delete all data on this device (to clear only the send log: Settings → Send log → Clear log)

Support emails are kept for three years after the request is resolved, then deleted.

5. Third parties who process data on our behalf

Processor Purpose
Apple Inc. [iOS] processing in-app purchases
Google LLC [Android] processing in-app purchases

We use no other processors. The app does not talk to any map, analytics or advertising service.

6. International transfers

The data the app creates and stores (contacts, templates, send log, settings) never leaves your device, so it is not transferred anywhere. The app uses no cloud sync — no iCloud, no Google Drive — and [Android] contacts and the send log are excluded from Android’s automatic backup.

If you make an in-app purchase, purchase information is passed to the company below so it can process the payment. Each handles it under its own privacy policy; we never hold your payment details.

7. Permissions

Each permission is used only for the feature it belongs to. If you decline, only that feature is unavailable; the rest of the app keeps working.

[iOS] Two permissions are requested

  • Camera: to photograph a business card or a paper list and read names and numbers from it
  • Photos: to read names and numbers from an image in your photo library

The Contacts permission is not requested. When you import from your address book, iOS shows its own picker and only the entries you select are handed to the app. The app cannot read your whole address book.

[Android] Four permissions are requested

Permission Used for If declined
SMS (send) Sending the heads-up text to the people you picked and approved Texts cannot be sent
Contacts Reading your address book only when you import from it Only address-book import is unavailable
Phone (call) Placing the call after the text The dialer opens with the number instead
Phone state Choosing which SIM sends, on dual-SIM phones The device’s default SIM is used

The app does not read received texts (READ_SMS is not used) and does not read your call history (READ_CALL_LOG is not used).

Camera and Photos permissions are not requested on Android. The app uses Android’s photo picker and camera screen, so only what you choose there is handed to the app.

Reading text from photos

Reading names and numbers out of a photo happens entirely on your device; neither the photo nor the recognised text is sent anywhere.

[Android] This feature uses Google’s ML Kit library. Recognition itself runs on the device, but the library may contact Google for its own operation and diagnostics. That traffic is covered by Google’s privacy policy and does not carry your contacts, templates or photos.

8. How texts and calls are carried out

[iOS]

The app never sends a text or places a call by itself. When you tap the action, the Messages sheet opens; nothing is sent until you review it and tap send yourself. Sent messages and calls appear in the iPhone’s Messages and Phone apps; the app keeps no separate record.

[Android]

On Android the app can send texts itself. Nothing is ever sent on its own.

  1. You pick the recipients from your list by hand
  2. A confirmation screen shows how many people will receive which text
  3. Sending starts only after you approve
  4. Texts go out one at a time with a pause between them, and you can watch the progress
  5. If you switch to another app while sending, the rest are not sent

The result of each send is recorded in the app’s send log (see section 2).

On both versions, standard carrier messaging and calling rates apply.

9. Advertising and tracking

The app contains no third-party advertising, no user tracking and no external analytics.

  • [iOS] Declared on the App Store as “Data Not Collected”.
  • [Android] Declared the same way in Google Play’s Data safety section.

10. Children

The app is not directed at children under 14 and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

11. Your rights

You may access, correct, delete or restrict the processing of your personal data. Because the data is on your device, you can view, edit and delete it directly inside the app. For anything else, contact us at the address in section 13.

If you are in the EEA or the UK, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. Because we hold no personal data about you on any server, in practice there is nothing for us to export, correct or erase on your behalf — everything is under your own control on your device.

12. Security

Your data is stored inside your device’s own security system ([iOS] iOS device encryption, [Android] Android device encryption). Because the app never transmits your data, there is no transmission to intercept.

[Android] Contacts and the send log are excluded from the device’s automatic backup, so they never pass through the cloud when you change phones or restore a backup.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the law or the app changes. Changes are announced in the app or on this page at least seven days before they take effect.
